The Clubhouse in San Luis Obispo, CA
Just wrapping up the night here in San Luis Obispo (SLO) after a fun show at The Clubhouse. I cruised the town a bit after my show to scope out some other venues, see what was happening around town, etc. and struck up a conversation with an elderly gentleman who suggested I check out the hostel in SLO. I called ‘em up and, you know… the price was right. So, I’m sitting down here at the kitchen table updating my blog before I hit the sack writing as I listen to an interesting conversation between an Aussie and a Japanese guy. They’re trading stories about their travels here in the States while a Frenchman gobbles up some Thai food at the head of the table. I think that the last time I hung out at a hostel was sometime in college when I toured Europe with my singing group. This one feels a little different, but hey… I’ve got an entire room to myself, a bed with clean sheets, running water, and a locking door for twenty one bucks. What more could you need? (Well, some house deodorant might be useful…)
I got an insane surf this morning in Santa Cruz before heading down the coast to SLO. My friend Buddy put me up for the night after my show at Asana Tea House and took me out at The Hook where it was firing. I think I had some of the longest rights I’ve had in a LONG time. I’ve been getting used to taking a beating at Ocean Beach up in San Francisco recently with all the swell. It was nice to get some solid, head-high, playful surf today for a change. Man, that place is like a skate park – so sick, so fun, so good…
Tomorrow, it’s off to Santa Barbara to get a surf in and to pick up a gig before heading down to Los Angeles for two shows (one on Tuesday at Genghis Cohen and one on Wednesday at Club Good Hurt). I’m hoping the swell will still be on when I get there as there are a few breaks that I’ve been meaning to check out after passing on them during my last trip down there. On Thursday, I’ll be headed to San Diego to play at Lestat’s and re-connect with some old friends. From there, who knows? So far, so good on this little mini-tour. Lots of good people, cool venues, and I’m feeling stronger with every set (both the musical and surf sets). Looking forward to continuing the adventure when I rise and shine tomorrow morning. In the mean time, g’night!
