Lestat’s West, Jan 14th San Diego, CA
Last night, I had a phenomenal time at Lestat’s West in the Normal Heights neighborhood here in San Diego, CA. It was my last show in a run of performances this January including stops in San Francisco, Santa Cruz, San Luis Obispo, two nights in Los Angeles, and last night in San Diego. Lou, the sound man, booking guy, manager, jack of all trades, etc. for Lestat’s was a real pleasure to work with. I mean, this guy has it DOWN. Within minutes of loading in my gear, the sound was set up, we were doing a sound check, and things sounded amazing. (Great job, Lou!) If you haven’t ever checked out Lestat’s West, you have to go there… period. These guys pull in all sorts of talent from all over, but their focus is on supporting independent music – and lots of it. Following me on the bill was local surfer/writer Jordan Frye who is apparently just getting started. From the sound of his set, though, you’d never know it. He, along with the rest of his group, was tight, professional, and played some great original tunes. (Nice job, guys!) Plus, he surfs… so there’s some insta-cred’ for ya.
Friends from years ago, some new friends, and friends of friends (it made for a lot of friends) all made an appearance last night in the audience and made my first set in the San Diego, CA area a memorable one. Thanks to everyone involved for such a warm welcome. I won’t forget it!
Now, it’s off to grab some surf while I’m down here in sunny San Diego, CA and spend some time checking out the area before heading back up the coast to my home in San Francisco. See ya soon!
