4/22: Lots of Driving Radio Interview at USC and Performance at Lestat’s in San Diego
We woke up with a nice little breakfast surprise at our hotel on the 22nd. This seemed like 4-star treatment by comparison to some of the dumps we “enjoyed” on the way down so far. In any case, a free breakfast is a GOOD breakfast!
Once we ate, cleaned ourselves up, and packed up the rig, we hit the road back up north to do a radio interview and performance on the USC radio station, KSCR. It was going to be a tight day as we had to do this radio gig from 4:15pm until 5:30pm, but had to then battle traffic to make a sound check in San Diego at Lestat’s at 8:00pm. In any case, it ended up being a fun interview with some good interaction from a few bloggers and listeners. We played through “Truck”, “How Long”, “Rocketship”, and few newer tunes, too. Lots of music on the show, which was great. Thanks heaps to DJ Shaniqua for hosting us at KSCR and a huge thanks goes out to the parking attendant who completely hooked me up with free parking for a few hours in exchange for a smile and copy of my album. Amazing what that’ll get you sometimes…
As soon as we wrapped up the radio gig, we packed up the Tacoma and hauled tail down to San Diego (or crawled, as was the case in some very heavy traffic sections on the road) to make our 9:00pm set at Lestat’s. Along the way, we had to stop to take a quick snapshot of a really beautiful sunset. I could see a few nice little waves out there, too, but there just wasn’t any time.
When we got to Lestat’s, we were actually a bit early, thanks to the car pool lane on I-5. The first thing we saw was the marquis which was awesome to see! I always love playing Lestat’s because they really run their venue in a completely professional manner from sound to promo to support on the night of the show.
We had a great time with some local friends in the audience as well as a number of people we met along the way who happened to be down in San Diego that night. The other acts, The Steelwells and John Helix, were a ton of fun to listen to, as well. Afterwards, we paid the mandatory visit to Rigoberto’s in La Jolla near my buddy’s place where we were staying that night and chilled out for a little while before hitting the sack for the night only to wake up to this beautiful scene the next morning:
