And We’re Off…
First day of recording down at OTR Studios with Cookie Marenco yesterday and we’re off… It was a long day of doing live takes of about 15 original songs with my acoustic guitar and vocals only. We did multiple takes of each song and pretty much went back to back from a little after 4pm until about 10pm without any breaks except a few minutes here and there to rewind the tape, switch a reel, etc. It’s safe to say that, by the end of the night, I was pretty much shot. However, we got some good stuff on tape and it was great to run through the updated arrangements, try a few new ideas, and get something down to review, adjust, and tighten up before the big session later this month.
The session gave me an excuse to finally restring both of my Taylor 814ce’s. I exclusively use Elixir Phosphor Bronze Light’s and I think I had these last two pair of strings on these guitars for as long as three months or so. The funny thing is, I play a lot every single day and gig a decent amount (read: sweaty strings) and those strings sounded and played just as good as they did when they were new. I just figured that I’d give my babies a once over and line ‘em up with some new strings since I was headed to a recording session in a studio after all.
Anyway, the session went great, we got a lot done, and we set the stage for the next phase of the recording later this month on September 27, 28, 29 and 30 (my birthday!). I’m pretty pumped and can’t wait to share some of the new tunes with you all, so stay glued right here and on my Facebook page for updates and I’ll keep you posted.
