Moving & Gigs Done
Man, last week was a whirlwind… I spent every day packing, moving, cleaning, and painting my place to try and get out of there before the new tenants moved in on Saturday morning. Add into the equation gigs on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights and I was running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Seriously…
Thursday night was live at McTeague’s in San Francisco, CA with percussionist Boone Spooner, Friday was a performance at Rockit Room, also in San Francisco, doing a solo set for the Farmer’s Insurance group (those guys can party!), and Saturday was a solo gig out at Carlos Santana’s restaurant (Maria Maria) in Walnut Creek, CA.
After I handed the keys over to my place on Saturday morning and wrapped up my gig that night, I could feel the stress slowly start to release from my shoulders. Amazing how much time it took me to get out of there! I hadn’t moved in nearly 8 years so you can imagine how much little junk accumulated on my shelves, in my cabinets, drawers, etc. I started to sort through stuff, create piles of “to keep” and ” to throw away” and “to donate”, but when push came to shove and the clock showed no sign of slowing down, it just turned into a free for all as I began to just pull out drawers and simply dump them into cardboard boxes. Hilarious. I suppose I’ll leave the junk sorting until I find a new place!
After all of the craziness last week and this weekend, I treated myself to a down day yesterday. After sleeping in really late to ward off a cold I had developed during two all-nighters moving/gigging last week, I lined up some fried pickles, a tasty burger, a tall, icy cold Coke, and settled in for a big meal, some light errands and chores, and a generally lazy day before getting back into the swing of things. You know what? It felt pretty good!
