Charts, Charts, Charts!

Staff paper, a capo, a pencil, a pick and a metronome: my best friends these days, for better or worse!
Yes, this is the mantra I keep reciting to myself. I have a day of recording scheduled this Friday with engineer/producer Cookie Marenco at OTR Studios down in Belmont, CA and while this will be a day of solo, acoustic and vocal tracking, I need to have all of my charts set and ready to go to review with her to tighten up the arrangements and notation for the rest of the band. It’s going to be close getting it all done as I still have a few more to go, but I’ll make it! Until then, it’s back to the grind… Me and my Number 2 Dixon Ticonderoga pencil and a stack of staff paper are getting mighty acquainted this week!
In the mean time, I’ve got this new tune that I’ve been working on that I really need to (want to) finish before the West Coast Songwriters Conference this weekend, but the chart writing is proving to be too much of a time suck to really put any solid thought into it… Hopefully, come this time tomorrow, I’ll be done with the charts and onto the creative process once again. I’ll keep ya posted! Until next time…
