The Krush 92.5 FM Radio Interview
After scrambling to get out of the house yesterday, picking up percussionist Jesse Weber, and loading up the truck, we high-tailed it down Route 101 to San Luis Obispo, CA to meet up with Pepper Daniels at The Krush 92.5 FM for an in-studio, on-air radio interview and performance. The traffic was fortunately a breeze and we even made it with about 30 minutes to spare (nice!). When we got there, Pepper introduced us around the station, gave us a quick run down on how the show was going to go, and then we set up our gear, tuned up, did a quick sound check, then busted out a REALLY fun interview and performance in The Krush 92.5 FM broadcast studio.
We ended up performing “Truck”, “How Long”, and “Rocketship” from my debut album and wrapped up with a new one called “It’s Alright”. It was sort of a miracle that things went as smoothly as they did because, right as we were loading our gear in, a gust of wind caught Jesse’s cajon and blew it right off of his shoulder landing it squarely on the ground. After hearing this, I pretty much expected to walk around the side of my truck to see his cajon in multiple pieces, but never fear… Duct tape is here! It turned out that there wasn’t too much damage and a just a few strips of duct tape actually brought everything back together nicely, perhaps a little rougher for the wear, but still sounding good.
After we wrapped up the show, we hung out for a little while chatting it up with Pepper and the gang at The Krush 92.5 FM and talked music, triathlons (of all things), mountain biking and surfing. Pepper is hitting up the Wildflower Triathlon a little later this spring and we were comparing notes, training, etc. Wish him luck if ya see him around San Luis Obispo!
Once we finally said our good-byes and packed up the truck, we grabbed a burrito (of course!) in San Luis Obispo and then headed up to Santa Margarita for our gig later that evening as part of local songwriter Steve Key’s “Songwriters at Play” showcase series. On the road, we were able to listen to our show on my truck radio, which, I have to say, was a dream come true. I’ve done a few radio interviews now and even a television performance and interview on CBS national television, but I’ve never actually been driving or just hanging out when the shows actually aired. What a cool and very surreal experience… I suppose I can check that off my bucket list, now!
Thanks SO much to Pepper and the crew at The Krush 92.5 FM for their support. We had an amazing time with them at their station and are looking forward to meeting up again the next time we’re in the Central Coast. If you’d like to hear the interview, you can stream it online and on-demand at The Krush 92.5 website at www.krush925.com by clicking the “On Demand” button on the home page and selecting our show. It should be live in the next day or so. In the mean time, we’ll still be on the road, so keep on checking back here for updates!

How do you make a bass player turn down the volume? Put a chart in front of him.
