Santa Barbara, 4/19 Gigging at Muddy Waters Café
After sleeping in a bit, we awoke to a beautiful day in Santa Barbara on The Mesa. There wasn’t any surf (it was flat and wind blown all along the coast at this point) but we took a walk down to the beach to cruise around some tide pools, check out the coastline, and get some much needed sun. The water was definitely warmer than it’s been in SF, and I was itching to get in and catch some waves, but there just weren’t any to be had. Nevertheless, the view was still impressive…
Later on, we settled into a few fish tacos with Jesse the percussionist’s family – some who lived in town and some who came all the way from Nevada. Afterwards, Jesse decided that he needed to go on a thrift store shopping spree and, while I slept in the car, he returned with 20+ new shirts. I have to admit, they were pretty cool, but I needed the zzs’s.
Later on, we set up at Muddy Waters Café just outside of downtown Santa Barbara for an evening of music with The Cleo Lynx Band – local Santa Barbara roots rockers. We had a great crowd for the night and really enjoyed ourselves on stage. Bill, the head honcho at Muddy Waters Café, made sure we were taken care of and sent us away with some great food and drink before we met up with a writer from the UCSB student magazine to do a quick interview.
At the end of the night, we were spent and ready to hit the hay. A big thanks goes out to the local folks in Santa Barbara for their support while we were in town and, especially, to the Weber family for hosting us for a few days in their home and tolerating our crazy schedules. You guys rock!
